The Ancient Kiln

The ancient kiln. So my first real weekend here, this was the first place I decided to visit. It's not too far away, and even without a bank card or metro card set up yet, I was able to take the bus (only 2 yuan within the city) and get away for the day. The whole place was surrounded my a pretty lake and park which I explored first.

Next up was a little Buddhist temple within the park. I really loved this one. It was quiet and there weren't many visitors.

After that I went into the kiln area. There's a whole pottery market there with shops and restaurants. It's really cute!

I had to pay a bit to get into the actual kiln, but it was worth it. WOW! So much cool history.

This holy tree was where lovers would meet after working at the kiln.

Stray cats everywhere:)

So that was the trip. I loved it. Stay tuned for more mini adventures next weekend.

Leigang Park

So I'm finally updating this blog with some of the places I've been to. The first weekend I was here, I walked across the city to this cool little park. The other foreign teachers call it "The lakes". It's real name is Leigang Park. It's just in the middle of all the urbanity. It's pretty big and winding. It follows a small river and pools into different lakes. At one end, there's a huge hill with a big temple-structure on top. It doesn't have much inside, a few museum pieces on Cantonese culture and art, but mostly it's just an excuse to hike up it and see the view of the city. Below are the pics.

Near the end of August I had the opportunity to go with Laura and her boyfriend to Zhuhai. It was a small, weird starup kind of city. Every...
