Guangzhou with Friends and Lotus World

Sorry for another long break. The internet over here has been on the fritz for a while. I'm still keeping busy with school, the gym, and various adventures. I'll be traveling the next two weekends as well, so I expect this blog will be taking another long hiatus.

In this post I'm finally finishing up all my adventures from July! Some of the Chinese girls I work with at school asked me to go to Guangzhou with them one weekend. We had a fun little outing.

First we got lunch... fish hot pot? something? It was really hot in there and we just kept putting fresh veggies in and boiling them with the fish sauce. It was delish!

The fish had a lot of little bones that were a bit hard for me to eat around though. I stuck to a lot of tofu and mushrooms although the fish was really good!

If you can't tell, this is a chicken... with it's head and everything... Not my favorite part of the meal.

In Guangzhou we hit up the park first. There is a big park on the West side. It has a lot of sections. We hiked up to this goat statue.

We then went to a huge wholesale shopping market. It was interesting to see how much merchandise you can get for insanely cheap. People were buying enormous bags full of clothes and shoes to sell at higher prices elsewhere probably.
After the market we just went downtown to Canton tower and looked around at all the huge buildings.

There was a cute little cactus garden there. I'd never seen cactus in China until this moment.

After getting back to Foshan we ate some Maltang. You pick out all your veggies and meat and noodles and whatever and then they boil it all in this spicy soup. I quite enjoyed it.
Me and Leslie and Ann at another party, but I love those girls. This was at a house party saying goodbye to some Irish coworkers who were going home. It was a nice night.

Another adventure I had in July was going to Lotus World. It is a theme park and sort of reserve for lotus plants. It also had a water park and theme park there... a very odd place.

Laura went with me and was kind enough to take some photos of me.

Here's Laura in an artsy pic:)

We also found part of the amusement park that had been abandoned, or was just in disrepair. It was very creepy. We had a good time exploring it.

Lotus world was overall very weird, but fun. I don't know if I'd go back for a second trip... but it was worth going once.

Anyway, thanks for sticking around. Hopefully the wait for the next post won't be too long!

Near the end of August I had the opportunity to go with Laura and her boyfriend to Zhuhai. It was a small, weird starup kind of city. Every...
